Hey Friends!
It has been a minute, but we are BACK! We were in the depths of planning and executing our 1st Black Legacy Celebration, and what a time we HAD! This was a true labor of love and we are extremely thankful for the community that helped us pull it together. The immense amount of hours planning, rehearsals, meetings and errands came together in a magical production that we are still talking about weeks later. From our stage production to our Legacy Lane Marketplace this event was one to remember. This month's blog is an excerpt from our emcee's opening monologue. It was impactful, powerful and really set the tone for our production. We hope you enjoy it!
Rooted in Community, Powered by Us
We are truly honored that you chose to be here today – gathered in community as we celebrate the legacy, brilliance, and resilience of Black people, Black leaders, and Black towns.
The theme of today’s production is “Rooted in Community, Powered by Us.” This theme speaks to the powerful history of the communities we built—not so long ago—and the truth that we still carry that same power within us. It reminds us that unity, cooperation, and collective care are not new ideas; they are part of our inheritance. And together, we have the ability to cultivate that strength once again.
Before we go any further, it’s important that we pause and acknowledge the significance of this moment in history.
This year marks 100 years since the very first Negro History Week — a week that planted a seed, nurtured by our ancestors, leaders, educators, and advocates, and grew into what we now know as Black History Month.
This milestone is a testament to the resilience, vision, and determination of a community that insisted our stories be told, our contributions be recognized, and our legacy be honored — not just for one week, but for generations to come.
Throughout this production—and throughout the rest of the day—you will witness the endurance and impact of community building. This moment is not accidental. Your presence here matters. Being here means you are part of this community. Whether you heard about this celebration from a friend, a family member, Facebook, or Instagram, you arrived here with intention and on purpose.
We hope you feel the care, the creativity, and the deep intention that has been poured into today. You are essential to this mission. Your presence is valued, and we hope that by the end of the day, you will walk away knowing just how vital it is for us to be in community with one another.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for being part of the legacy.
In Closing
Community is something you build with intention and is built with purpose and ON purpose. A quote from our stage production: "When we invest in each other, we all prosper" -Mom
Until next time,
